The following mixtures are designed to be sown in blocks or strips as either a mixture or in alternating rows. Wild birds need an all year round source of seed for feed. There are both one year and two year mixtures available as detailed below, as well as the Autumn sown option. The aim is to provide year round feed for seed eating wild birds in a grassland situation. This is an option where fields have been in “permanent grass” for at least five years.

Wild Bird Seed on Grassland Mixture options:

WBS1 ~ Annual Mixture (Spring Sown)

WBS2 ~ Two Year Mixture (Spring Sown)

WBA1 ~ Annual Mixture (Autumn Sown)

WBS1 ~ Annual Mixture                                 400 points per hectare      

• 30% Spring Triticale
• 35% Spring Barley
• 10%  Linseed
• 10%  Millet
• 15%  Mustard

This spring sown mixture will give a good amount of seed and cover for birds but will need to be replaced annually as the linseed, millet and mustard will not survive the winter. You may find some Triticale and Barley volunteers survive.

Sowing rate: 40kg/ha - available in half hectare 20kg packs

WBS2 ~ Two Year Mixture                             400 points per hectare      

• 35% Spring Triticale
• 35% Spring Wheat
• 10%  Thousand Head Kale
• 10%  Quinoa
• 10%  Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover

This spring sown mixture will give a good amount of seed and cover for birds. In this mixture you will find that the Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover, Kale and Quinoa will give a good second year growth together with Triticale and Wheat volunteers

Sowing rate: 40kg/ha - available in half hectare 20kg packs

WBA1 ~ Annual Mixture ~ Autumn Sown               400 points per hectare      

• 30% Winter Triticale
• 40% Winter Barley
• 10%  Oilseed Rape Double Low
• 20%  Winter Vetches

This mixture sown in Autumn will give a good range of feed interest. This will need to be re~sown annually but will give cover and feed earlier than the spring sown versions above.
