Secure Covers
The strength of secure covers
Silage pit covers

Secure Covers are a lightweight but strong cover for your silage pit. Secure Covers are made from the highest quality, finely woven, UV stable polyethylene mesh. In use, the Secure Cover is placed over the normal polythene silage sheet and weighted only at the edges and joins. Once fitted, Secure Covers’ unique construction disperses wind gusts ensuring that the silage sheet remains in place on the silage pit. By ensuring that the silage sheet is kept in close contact with the silage, a Secure Cover will effectively reduce surface waste. The finely woven mesh helps prevent bird damage to the silage sheet and when pulled down stops birds feeding on the feed face.

Secure covers are strong enough to protect your pit from damage by cats, dogs, people and even cattle. That strength in addition to the seven year material and workmanship guarantee make this a product that Horizon Seeds are happy to offer as part of our portfolio.

Silage clamp with secure cover

Make sure that the clamp is slightly domed and has been well sheeted in the normal way. Secure Covers should then be fitted across the clamp starting at the back and working forward, so that they can be rolled back as the clamp is fed.

Keep the Secure Cover smooth and stretched tight using suitable weights around the edge and across joins. As the silage settles ensure the Secure Cover remains taut

You will need to measure your pit and calculate an extra amount for the “dome” this will add both width and length to your pit measurement. You should allow 1 metre overlaps to ensure good coverage. Seems and edges should be weighted down with Gravel Bags. Which are 1 metre long and 0.15m diameter, when filled  these weigh between 20 ~25 kg. The cost for Gravel Bags is £1.20 each.
