Harvest by 1st October and establish an Autumn Sown Crop, or Undersow the Maize Crop with a grass or clover based mixture. A steady if not spectacular points tally for an area in which you are growing Maize. It is a fair bet that you could do with a clamp full of grass ahead of the next Maize crop. Note this option is only available where maize is grown. This is a rotational option which means that you may move it around the farm with your maize as long as the same acreage is sown for the period of your agreement.

Italian Ryegrass Blend for After Maize

Can be used as either an After Maize or Undersowing. This can either be a blend of two or more varieties or a single Straight Italian Ryegrass. Available in 25kg packs sown at around 12.5kg to the acre, this will give up to two years of good silage yield. The economy factor of this option makes it viable to re-sow Maize in the same field in situations where this is part of your rotational plan.

Westerwolths(olds) Ryegrass for After Maize

The superb “one hit” wonder, Westerwolths is usually a single straight variety of exceedingly high yielding ryegrass. Can be sown happily after maize and give one cut, giving you a good start to your silage, ahead of re-sowing maize or any other spring crop. The economy factor of this option makes it viable to re-sow Maize in the same field in situations where this is part of your rotational plan. Available in 25kg packs with a sowing rate of around 15 -18kg per acre. This weight taking into account the size of the seed.
