Setter is a traditional mixture ideal for full season cover. Setter sues a wide range of different species ensuring the mixture can be utilised from September to February.

As well as providing top quality cover Setter provides a useful amount of feed from the seeds shed from the millet blend, buckwheat, sunflowers and gamecover maize.

Labrador has been specifically designed for use in cooler more exposed situations, Labrador will provide full season cover and some feed potential.

Labrador has also been used successfully as a borrd rearing crop becauseof its ability to attractinsects. Keeper kale with its excellent leaf canopy will ensure maximum cover until late February. This mixture may, with careful management, last up to two years. Triticale the main constituent of this mixture may make this suitable for situations where rabbits are a problem.

Pointer Gamecover Mixture

Pointer

Pointer is either Spring or Autumn sown for use int he following year. Pointer can bve used as long term shooting or nesting cover and is ideal for sowing along hedgerows, woodsides and field margins. It has potential to las as long as seven years depending on management. Sweet clover is a tall biennial, which is able to fix nitrogen thus benefitting the canary grass and cocksfoot in the mixture. Its yellow flowers will attract many insects to lay eggs in the mixture and this will provide an abundance of grubs and larvae for young chicks int he summer months. It will provide nesting cover in the following spring for a whole host of game and wild birds.

Pointer will need careful management. The rows will need to be thinned out annually to limit the bottom growth which if too thick will impede the movement of birds. Tjhis mixture is highly suitable for Northern England and Scotland.

Spaniel

Spaniel is a summer sown, drought tolerant gamecover mixture which will establish quickly to provide autumn cover through until February.

The main use for Spaniel is to replacespring sown cover strips which may have failed through drought or very bad flea beetle attacks. However it is also very useful for patching up new or existing gamecover areas.

Spaniel can provide excellent cover if sown into standing cereals in June/July. The cereal can be harvested to leave the already germinating gamecover. If viable a cereal strip coud be left uncut to provide a valuable amun of autumn feed.
