Basic preparation for lawn seed.

As with most things in life ~ preparation is the key to success with sowing grass. In very general terms you should prepare a fine flat seed bed. Removal of “Large Perennial Weeds” Dock, Dandelion, Thistle etc is the most important. You may wish to consider soil conditioning prior to sowing. If for example you have a heavy clay soil you could help to break it up by adding a sharp sand and working this through the topsoil, this will help to stop the soil clogging in lumps which can then “bake” dry in summer. Alternatively if you have a very sandy soil you might wish to consider adding some compost to the topsoil to give it some "body"and moisture retention. Sowing rates shown with our mixtures should be looked at as a "minimum" with much better results coming from sowing up to double these rates shown.Try to sow evenly by weighing some seed into a bucket and sowing over a set area. Keep the seed bed moist until germination is well under way.
