Why choose Triumph Leys
Our mixtures are blended using the latest varietal information from NIAB, the Scottish Colleges and DARDNI. The emphasis is on productivity with D values very much in mind. The aim is to produce a highly productive ley with excellent digestibility.
What is D value? D value is a measure of digestibility – an important measure of herbage quality.·High D values mean high ME levels, increasing dry matter intake which means more milk or meat from a given quantity of forage. As grass matures, yield rises but D value falls and quality declines. Our leading Triumph Leys are formulated with 70D as the benchmark as this offers an excellent balance between quality and yield. Conservation mixtures have a close range of 70D dates making it possible to accurately plan the timing of the first cut.·
Grazing mixtures have a wider spread of 70D dates thus maintaining quality and production over a longer period of time.A re-seed with Triumph 70D Leys may increase grass production by at least 30% compared with permanent pasture.
Recent and ongoing work at IGER to develop and breed high water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) grasses and subsequent trialling has found that high WSC grasses have important attributes under grazing. Water soluble carbohydrates are sugars, which are inside the plants, and readily available as an energy source to allow better utilisation of protein leading to potentially higher milk yields and improved live weight gains. Environmental benefits in reducing nitrogen excretions are also evident. High sugar grasses have for sometime also been known to be important in silage making producing a good fermentation. Grasses from the IGER program are included in Triumph Leys. We continually strive to bring the very best of grass strains for our valued Triumph Ley customers.
Choice of ley and its varietal make-up is the factor, which has the greatest influence on the quantity and quality of forage production – be assured choose a Triumph Ley.
